How to publish your book, make a layout

Nothing is more pleasant than holding your book, printed in large quantities. You don't have to sell your intellectual work; you can print it for yourself and your loved ones to collect and immortalize your most important secret.
If you provide the publisher with a book layout created in a layout program and converted to PDF format, we add only two pages (the first and last) with the publisher's source data and send it to the printer. At the same time, the layout must meet specific requirements (see general requirements for submitting materials to the publisher). In case of deviation from these parameters, claims regarding the quality of printing are not accepted, as are claims regarding possible typographical errors of the author. A book manuscript typed in Word or any other text editor is not a layout.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMITTING MATERIALS TO THE KRPOCH PUBLISHING HOUSE

1. When making a layout in a layout program, the trim dimensions of the publication are set, and the layout elements "on the flyout" are limited by rulers.
2. If the layout contains "on the flyout" elements, they must protrude 5 mm beyond the trim size.
3. If the layout contains drawings that do not go on the flyout but are close to the trim edge, they must not be closer to the edge than 5 - 7 mm.
4. The minimum line thickness is 0.25 pt.
5. the color layout must be converted to CMYK for offset printing!
6. Digital printing allows the RGB color gamut.
7. All non-printing elements outside the trim format must be removed from the layout (including empty frames).
8. Unused colors must be removed from the layout.
9. Black and white raster images must be converted to Grayscale.
10. Line images should be saved as bitmaps.
11. All unnecessary channels and layers should be removed.
We suggest taking into account the following:
- light tones – less than 10% – may not be visible;
- the total percentage of CMYK colors shouldn't exceed 250%;
- you do not need to set 100% – any color, maximum – 98%;
- spot color uniformity in digital printing is not guaranteed;
- the most problematic color with gradient filling is blue;
13. The standard resolution of images for printing in A3 format is 300 dpi, A2 or A1 format allows 250 – 150 dpi, and A0 format can be printed with a resolution of 150 – 80 dpi (depending on quality requirements).
14. The capacity of line images – 600 – 1200 dpi.
15. It is advisable to rotate all images that need to be rotated not in the layout program but in Photoshop.
16. All images should be scaled to the required scale, not in the layout program but in Photoshop (exceptions are allowed for black and white photos).
17. All transparencies should be implemented in Photoshop (layout and photo output programs do not accept transparency!)
18. Use only PostScript fonts to work with layouts. TrueType fonts are allowed for digital printing.
19. Do not use Helvetica and its variations in works intended for printing - the most problematic font!
20. Be sure to collect all used fonts (*. PFM and *. PFB files) and images before submitting the layout for printing!
21. When submitting material in CorelDraw! In Adobe Illustrator, all fonts must be converted to curves.
22. It is advisable to submit Illustrator layouts in versions 7, 8, or 10. But not in 9!
23. All effects in vector editors (transparency, textures, overlays, etc.) must be converted to a bitmap in these editors themselves.
24. You should not place raster illustrations in vector editors via the clipboard.
25. It is advisable to submit Word files for layout to the publishing house with the track edit mode disabled.
26. Layouts made on MACs are accepted. Try to work with Adobe InDesign (version 5.0 and higher) or QuarkXPress (version 4.11 and higher). Layouts created in Adobe PageMaker, Ventura, are yesterday's layout.
